DESCRIPTION

Zinc has many effects and functions, without which the body has serious problems. For the development of a child, its deficiency can delay physical and mental adolescence. Still, it must not be missing in adulthood because it is, e.g., necessary for the proper functioning of enzyme systems [1]. Furthermore, its insufficient amount causes slow wound healing, memory impairment and sensory disorders – especially visual and olfactory.

In addition to nutritional supplements, marine animals appear to be a reliable source of zinc. Zinc is flushed from the body through high fluid intake, alcohol intake or diuretics [2]. Therefore, it is necessary to think about its complementarity. Other sources of zinc are nuts and green leafy vegetables, provided they are grown on good soil. However, animal resources are several times richer in zinc and therefore, strict vegetarians should think about this as well.

Zinc intake should also be considered in periods of increased morbidity. Some defensive cells of the body without zinc cannot effectively fight the disease.
